Getting Real About Work-Life Balance and Stay-at-Home Mom Life with MamaLane

by Anita 4 Comments

solo shot June 2015

I had the wonderful opportunity recently to be interviewed and featured on MamaLane, a must-see elegant new website and online source of support, inspiration and practical tips for Asian-American professional working moms.

As I discussed in my last post, I stopped practicing law several years ago. However, having now had the chance to live life on both ends of the spectrum – as a professional working mom and as a stay-at-home mom of three – I’ve gained at least a little bit of hard-earned insight about life, motherhood, and trying to balance it all (the key word being “trying”). It was good exercise for the soul to reflect on some of those lessons with MamaLane. For the full interview/feature, click here.

Thanks for agreeing to be featured. You’re such an inspiration to mothers- having achieved career goals and being an active mom to three kids. I guess we’re writing and blogging for a reason nowadays, let’s keep pushing forward and sharing our stories. Cheers!

Even though in some ways we’re both going through a little slump, I was encouraged by your recent post about having writer’s block. I really do think everything has a reason, and a season, and ours also is not for nought. xoxo

I just clicked on the link via my iPad and it worked! Maybe the link was delayed on Monday? Who knows. Technology is baffling at times lol. Love the article though!

Ready Or Not, Here I Come.

Classy 'n sassy, flawed but forgiven,
I'm a bit of a mess...but teachable, yes.
You may just laugh, you may just cry,
"Oh no she di-int! Say wha? And why?"
'Cause life is short and sh*t gets real.
So let's be real. We got a deal?

Well, and the bunny isn’t even yours.

Blown away by the poem written and recited by exce Blown away by the poem written and recited by exceptional 22yo Amanda Gorman at Biden’s inauguration this morning.

"THE HILL WE CLIMB" Poem Transcript:

Dr. Biden, Madam Vice President, Mr. Emhoff, Americans, and the world.

When day comes, we ask ourselves, where can we find light in this never ending shade?
The loss we carry, a sea. We must wade.
We've graved the belly of the beast.
We've learned that quiet isn't always peace.
In the norms and notions of what just is, isn't always justice.
And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it. Somehow we do it.
Somehow we've weathered and witnessed a nation that isn't broken, but simply unfinished.
We, the successors of a country and the time where a skinny Black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president only to find herself reciting for one.
And yes, we are far from polished, far from pristine, but that doesn't mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect.
We are striving to forge our union with purpose.

To compose a country, committed to all cultures, colors, characters, and conditions of man.
And so we lift our gaze, not to what stands between us, but what stands before us
We close the divide because we know to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside.
We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another. We seek harm to none and harmony for all.
Let the globe, if nothing else say, this is true.
That even as we grieved, we grew.
That even as we hurt, we hoped.
That even as we tired, we tried that will forever be tied together victorious.
Not because we will never again know defeat, but because we will never again sow division.
Scripture tells us to envision that everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree and no one shall make them afraid
If we're to live up to our own time, then victory won't lie in the blade, but in all the bridges we've made.
That is the promise to glade the hill we climb.
If only we dare it's because being American is more than a pride we inherit.
It's the past we step into and how we repair it.

We close the divide because we know to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside
Reposting @thejoywarrior. She called it. This is Reposting @thejoywarrior. She called it. This is nothing less than terrorism. By U.S. citizens. On their own Capitol. To protest the lawful, democratic ousting of a President who can not acknowledge facts or truth, or accept defeat, or abide by - much less uphold - the law and our Constitution. God, please humble and hold our nation accountable, that we might be blessed once more. NO ONE can “MAGA” but You, God. You, who desires goodness, humility, and brotherly love among us all.
